The first Brew Not Bombs Chicago took place on October 4, 2008 as a backyard party featuring music from Sass Dragons, Hot Butter Music, The Rust Belt Ramblers, and Al Scorch.  The event also included homebrew and vegan chili competitions, plus beer from Half Acre Brewery, and chili from eight local restaurants. The event raised $1200 for Chicago Food Not Bombs (hence the name "Brew Not Bombs"). The event was a big success, an inspiration for the future.
